The boy looked unimpressed, though his features did soften the slighted degree.
“I think your ears might be playing tricks on you.”“But I heard noises..” he trailed off.
The boy shrugged, the motion contained and measured.
“I wish I could tell you about the noise but I didn’t hear a thing. It must have been the wind you heard.”“No I-,” Harry started to protest before stopping, knowing there was no point in insisting if the boy didn’t want to say.
“I just wanted to make sure everyone was fine.” Harry finished lamely, sure now that he had gotten the wrong idea.
The boy opened his mouth to say something, but then paused, head tilting back as if he had heard something from within the apartment. Immediately his entire persona became more alert. He looked back at Harry, and Harry felt his previous surety crumble at the sight of concealed alarm in those brown eyes. The boy hid it well with a quick smile and the parting words,
“Thanks for caring sir, that’s nice of you, but I have to go back in. Good day.”
