“Complained about it all through dinner a couple days ago,” she said with a fond chuckle. “Somedays I worry those two have grown a little too codependent on the other.”
David could only nod and smile politely. Something ugly bubbled in his gut as his mind raced over the fact that Liam was not, in fact, where he and Jenna believed. He had excused himself and rushed to his office in order to call Jenna and see if she could figure out where their son went.

Summary
His arms were wrapping around Liam’s neck in a manner that had become all too common for him, Theo pulling Liam in close as bullets began to fly their way.
The elevator doors suddenly got their shit together, closing just as he pulled Liam over the threshold, the two falling into one another, Theo with his back against the wall.
Theo couldn’t hear anything except their combined erratic beating hearts, Liam’s familiar scent filling his nostrils.
It took him, and Liam it seemed, a moment to realize they were tangled up together, one of Theo’s arms still protectively wrapped around Liam, the beta all but in his lap.
Liam quickly shrugged him off and made to stand, beelining for the buttons, his claws tapping at the hold button. Theo stayed where he was, looking up at Liam.
“What’re you doing here?” Liam all but shouted, more freaked out at the situation than angry with Theo.
Theo scoffed. “I was just about to ask myself the same thing.”

Like a fool, he thought that he knew what Liam looked like when he was in love, having seen how he was with Hayden, and it never in a million years would have occurred to him that Liam would have fallen for someone as pernicious and complex as Theo.

Gabe was never part of the plan. The kid came out of nowhere and it didn’t matter that Theo saw him before anyone else did. It didn’t matter because there was nothing any of them could’ve done at that point. His gun was ready, aimed and he just pulled the trigger.
