"Well, you're not like other guys, y'know?"
Dan's mouth fills with blood. His teeth grinding down on the skin of his tongue and his frontal lobe. His brain pounds into his skull at a steady 120 beats per minute.
"What makes you say that?"
He swallows the iron paste coating his mouth and pinches the inside of his thigh. Again. Again. And again. His feet shuffle in their place against the linoleum floor.
"Well, you're just..different. Quiet. You're just a breath of fresh air. Every other relationship I have been in, they always get on my ass about stupid shit. But you..you're just cool. And easy."
Easy. Easy as opposed to what? Crazy? A handful? Normal? He pulls his sleeves over his hands and rubs them over his denim covered kneecaps. The pounding of his skull leaks out and hits his eyelids. He stands up and grabs his keys.
"I'm gonna head out."
"Oh come on, what did I say wrong?"
"I'm just tired."
"Just sleep here."
