I start by making two plain bands from 9 carat yellow gold and then hammer them to create and irregular shape and rustic texture. I use a flat shaped hammer which strikes the metal at slightly different angles and creates subtle facets, the result looks like natural stone or a maybe a rugged landscape. A simple rustic 18k gold band. Sweet little Bean. She is about 1.3 - 1.5mm wide and about 1.2 - 1.3mm thick. I made her out of a clay like wax to give her a rough porous earthy feel. Although she is quite simple, I chose to make her out of wax and cast her using the lost wax method. I love the subtle softness that the wax forms which is difficult for me to achieve using gold wire. Bean's texture makes the gold have a little shimmer in the sunlight.
