Kirsty Kash on Instagram: "Smooth gradients can be tricky to achieve with underglazes because they don’t look the same after firing as they do straight out of the jar!! Here are a few things I’ve figured out over the years:  1. Avoid applying layers of colour in straight lines. When the bands of colour flow up and down organically with your design the gradient will appear smoother.  2. I rarely use a pure colour straight out of the jar. Introduce a little bit of the next colour from the beginning so that the shift will be more subtle. Amaco’s Velvet underglazes are my favourite because they mix so well and the colours are so vibrant!  3. Some pigments are shy and others take over! Find colours that have a similar intensity so that you can blend them easily. For example, Amaco’s Red velvet Amaco Underglaze Velvet, Amaco Glaze Layering, Amaco Underglaze, Velvet Underglaze, Amaco Glazes, The Shift, The Jar, Find Color, Red Clay
