There’s this 7-movie series, Horatio Hornblower, made in the 90s about a sailor in the British navy during the Napoleonic wars. It sounds dry, but man, it’s a lot better than that. Within the first thirty minutes of the first movie he’s beaten up a bit and there’s shooting and everything. There’s a character in the first movie that has stress-related seizures, and has one during a stealth mission, so they have to knock him out or be discovered, and the antagonist cuts his boat loose (1/2)

the-wandering-whumper:

(2/2) while he’s lying there. In the fourth movie (iirc) the MC gets captured by Spain. Guess what, there’s his friend who has seizures, he’s been there the whole time and tried multiple times to escape. There’s more throughout the movies (and, I assume, the books), they’re just great. I do recommend them. (The MC is briefly mentioned to be 17 in the first movie, though the actor is 25, and gets older as time goes on.)

As a huge Jamie Bamber fan, it’s a travesty that I have not seen these movies. People have been recc’ing then to me for years. Perhaps it’s high time I watch them all :)

And thank you for pointing out the age. As long as the actor is over 18, the whump usually doesn’t trigger me.

Oh man I love that series!! I haven’t watched it in ages and I never did finish all 7 but it’s great! Fun fact: I named my trumpet Horatio Hornblower. Get it? Hornblower? I love bad jokes.

But seriously this series is great. I mean it stars Ioan Grufudd. In the Navy.
