Following the Great Flood, the vast majority of Hyrule was sunk into the ocean. Most of the survivors settled on new islands created by the deluge, discarding their Hyrulean descent in the process. However, one resident of Hyrule remained. In spirit form, Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule remained in the submerged Hyrule Castle for at least some time, before going to the surface in the guise of the King of Red Lions to aid Link in his quest.
