함수 이 유전자가 인코딩한 단백질은 뇌지방산 결합 단백질이다. 지방산 결합 단백질 (FABPs)은 장체인 지방산과 기타 소수성 리간드를 결합하는 작고 보존성이 높은 세포질 단백질 이다.FABP는 지방산 섭취, 운반, 신진대사의 역할을 하는 것으로 생각된다.[5]
FABP7은 개발 중 에 노치 수용체의 활성화에 의해 방사상 글리아로 표현된다.[6] 릴린 은 노치-1 활성화를 통해 신경 세포 에서 FABP7 발현을 유도하는 것으로 나타났다.[7]
한 연구에 따르면, FABP7은 모든 FABP 중에서 가장 높은 친화력으로 DHA 를 결합한다.[8]
