아케르 홀드레이치는 꽃이 피는 식물군 사핀다과에 속하는 단풍나무의 일종이다.[5]흔히 발칸 단풍, 그리스 단풍, 헬드레이히 단풍, 산악[6][7][1] 단풍이라고 불리는 이 종은 흑해의 남쪽과 동쪽 해안을 따라 발칸 반도 동쪽이 원산지다.[2][8]
Acer holdreicii는 나무껍질이 매끄러운 20m(65.6ft) 높이의[9] 나무다.[10]잎은 5–14cm(2.0–5.5인치) 길이로, 가을 동안 황갈색으로 변하는 3-5개의 로브로[9] 깊게 자른다.[10]
