Tips for a beginner

Hi, I'm Ricky.

In a few days I will start building my forum with Xenforo and I have some beginner's questions:

1. I am going to change things with CSS and make changes to some more files. How should I do it so that when there is an update they are not deleted?

2. Is Xenforo updated often? Is it like WordPress?

If you think that as a newbie I should know something more, please tell me, Thanks!

As you're new you should look at the cloud option where you only need to worry about the css and the content.
Make sure that the content has a theme.
For example favourite sports.
Just to get people's interests at heart.

Updates do not delete your template edits. It is easy to add css, usually in the extra.less template. Try it out on the demo.

It’s nothing like Wordpress as it’s a dedicated forum software. It gets updated from time to time. Security issues are identified and patched very quickly.

I have another question, are all 2.x addons compatible with Xenforo 2.3?

For example, can I install the Spanish translation of Xenforo 2.2.13 in Xenforo 2.3?

The add-on resource entry generally says when it is compatible for 2.3. If it doesn't say it is, assume not ( to be on the safe side) or else contact the developer.

@Rycky He's right, ^^ but if you're willing to live dangerously, then you can simply try running the add-on on the new version anyway and look for any errors. Best done in a sandbox environment, ie another, test installation, not the one that's hosting your forum.

Don't forget this is advice for somebody not yet licensed so it's moot point really.
