Graduate Mentoring and Academic Program Support (Graduate MAPS)
Graduate MAPS is University of Idaho’s College of Graduate Studies (COGS) centralized mentoring effort. The goal of Graduate MAPS is not to create a “one size fits all” approach to mentoring but rather to work individually with colleges, departments, and graduate faculty to identify and address their own mentoring needs. Graduate MAPS can assist in the development of mentoring materials for grant proposals (such as for the National Science Foundation), drafting mentoring plans, and configuring mentoring data for annual reporting purposes.
Michael Decker is the director of graduate student support for the College of Graduate Studies. In this role, he oversees all professional development programming execution and development. Michael also teaches COGS grant writing and development courses and leads the COGS Wilderness Education course in the summer. In this role, Michael also oversees mentoring efforts, specifically maintaining University of Idaho’s NSF PAPPG mentoring plan template, generating reports on student participation in professional development opportunities for reporting purposes, and helping colleges, departments, and faculty create tailored mentoring plans for their unique needs.
These mentoring plans are examples of great work that the U of I faculty community have created. All credit is attributed to authors.
