I spent about three months there in 2005, with most of my time in Lahore but I went with my Turkish friend to a city called Chaman, NW of Lahore. My time there is blurry because I had both food poisoning and a cold.

But one incident I will never forget.

My friend and I went to visit his extended family who were Pakis, related by marriage. We went with his aunt, his uncle, and two brothers to an outdoor mall, like a traditional ME market but better. Here we are, strapping and strong group and I started loading up on bags. Every man, down to my friend, instead took the bags and draped them over the sole woman, his aunt. She was about 50+, very short and chubby. Looked tired and hot.

The men walked ahead and smoked cigarettes, shooting the breeze and making her carry ALL THE GROCERIES. Like a pack mule.

I felt like a heel and kept going back to help her. She refused and my friend gave me the Turkish no- a sucking of the teeth and a slight upward head nod. (what we think of as yes).

Why is that old woman living alone, in poverty, in a trailer park?!? This would not happen in societies like the Afghan or Pakistani ones that are being criticized here. No president can take credit for an economic boom because they occur in cycles triggered by Fed largess. The lead and lag time for booms and recessions are years in the making. The Shale Oil Miracle is a giant fraud. It’s petering out now and caused major environmental damage by pumping chemicals into the ground that have a proprietary formula. The oil and gas that was recovered as a result isn’t economic and the producers in the space are going bust because it was never economically viable.

Any investment in workers was done with borrowed money which just adds to the debt. Taking currency out of one pocket to put it in the other pocket is a flimflam.

The issue is “running the show as they see fit”.

Different totalitarian regimes have different social arrangements. Hitler’s Germany was one type, Stalin’s Soviet Union another and Xi Jinping’s China a further variant.

Hitler and Xi were/are ethnic nationalists aiming to further the social and economic development of their people. Stalin’s priority was to protect his personal power and run the Soviet Union like a military camp.

In contrast, US totalitarianism comprises a satanic Jewish elite promoting decadence (what the Weimar Germans called the “Hellish Carnival”) while wholesale looting the place. The closest parallel is in fact Weimar Germany – now trending into violent Neo Bolshevism (both historic Jewish run projects).

I remain of the view that the Taliban should announce/enforce an amnesty i.e. forgiveness for all those collaborators. They were only being paid to work for the country’s rulers.

That would quickly end the conflict, and earn them worldwide praise.

The rule should be that if ‘None of the above’ wins the election, the office goes vacant for the natural duration until the next election. If the political parties can’t field a candidate that the people can vote for, then no one should get the job.

I agree with the essence of your solution, but to believe there is nothing that could be done to halt a nationwide strike is somewhat naive. The power elite could have their goons shoot strikers, at random, in the head…surreptitiously or overtly. Consider what has transpired over the last few years at the direction of the Deep State. It is not much of a stretch to invasion random killings. This would cause most to rethink their strike efforts.

A strike doesn’t necessarily mean people marching around. It could mean people simply staying home and not showing up for work. This is outside Pepe’s topic but I agree with your position . I have been proposing “None of the above” and direct democracy through referendums for some years. That would require that better information is made available to the public than what mainstream journalism actually provides. And then the elected officials should respond to their constituency and not to a political party. In some way political parties that require party discipline from their members shouldn’t exist. I think the democratic process has to involve the citizens all the time and not just on election day. The “elitists” in the current political establishment are averse to direct democracy though.
