thinking about that time when my dad and I watched the live broadcast of paul mccartneyโs set at glastonbury in 2022 and the second โhere todayโ (played after blackbird as it currently stands on his typical setlist still today just to make it more emotionally evil) and how we both were overwhelmed with a quiet and heavy sadness that left us both crying. neither of us knew much about the song - he wasnโt into the Beatleโs as much as I was, and even I hadnโt had a huge delve into any of their solo works apart from the โbigโ albums yet, so our knowledge was very limited - apart from the fact that it was his tribute to john following his death.
itโs amazing how the grief of a man to a very close friend 40 years prior (and ongoing grief, clearly shown in the performance of the song) can so profoundly effect a father, who was three when john lennon died and never really got into the beatles until the 2010s, and a daughter, who joined the party after watching a hard days night 10 years prior to paulโs glastonbury performance.
we felt the same melancholy during something and iโve got a feeling, ESPECIALLY as we hadnโt long finished watching get back
and in typical paul mccartney fashion we got whiplash with all his fun and whimsical songs. (something was followed by OB-LA-DI OB-LA-DA. NO ONE CAN RECOVER QUICK ENOUGH)
