I keep seeing the leather/pleather vs denim jacket poll over and over again with all different sorts of discourse about how there is no plastic-free pleather and like, that's TRUE, there isn't, but honestly I DO think people who don't want to use animal products* also deserve to look cool
and so my suggestion is that y'all google "waxed cotton jacket" or "waxed canvas jacket" plus like, "motorcycle" or whatever style you think is cool, because there's a plastic free leather-look material that is strong and durable and waterproof and doesn't use animal products** AND is plastic free already out there and some of the clothes that you can get made out of it look sick as hell.
*ignoring the fact that most leather is meat by-product that would be going to waste anyway
**except beeswax but if you're going to object to that then honestly there's no helping you
waxed cotton looks so good and wears-in to a gorgeous patina and when it loses its finish you can re-wax it and that just makes it look even better and more patinaed instead of flaking off in horrible bits of microplastic leaving you with a ruined piece of clothing
hang on to every single aborted half-finished flimsy unrefined story/narrative/oc idea u have ever gotten obsessed w for 36 hours and then set aside like "idk how i'm ever going to use this. oh well", and/or every story bit u ever test drove for a while but then got bored of/outgrew but always thought a little longingly about, etc, bc maybe one day u are goign to get nailed straight in the forehead w the cumulative story idea that instantly combines like literally every single one of them. i do not guarantee that story will be good but what can u do

i know the term "treatlerite" gets bandied about a lot on here but the amount of people i saw on reddit who 1. didn't immediately see this policy as a direct threat to the safety of trans dashers and 2. thought this would have literally any benefit whatsoever (and 2b. thought that "guessing at the dasher's race and gender ahead of time" was a benefit worth point 1) was... disheartening, to say the least

looks like this is due to a law passed last year in CA that goes into effect at the start of next month and these apps are just rolling the change out nationally so they don't have to maintain separate apps/standards per state. Cali voters and legislators really are not beating the treatlerite allegations unfortunately
