sometimes when people "misuse a technical term" it's because it's actually a common word with a broad meaning in casual contexts and they just aren't using the specific definition it has in technical contexts.
but then also sometimes when people "use a technical term in a non-technical context with a different broader definition" they're actually making a scientific claim, and they either don't know the technical definition of the word they're using, don't care what the technical definition of the word they're using is, or actively think the technical definition of the word they're using is itself wrong.
and the problem of course is that when people say "a straw has two holes" it is almost impossible to tell which of these two things is happening.

i know some people will take this in the worst faith possible but some people here put way too much emphasis on the act of following someone on social media. like when i follow someone it means
