Death’s speech on about how he could not kill Dean does not make any sense whatsoever. No, but think here. Death’s scythe can kill anything – God, Death, literally anything – it is the most powerful weapon in the entire universe. Explain, then, to me why can’t it kill Dean? Because, as I see it, being Death or God kind of trumps having the Mark of Cain.

I don’t think he meant literally. I think he could very well kill him with that scythe but killing Dean would mean releasing the mark aka breaking the key to the lock that was holding back the Darkness. The same Darkness that God himself plus the archangels could not destroy but had to lock away. So not a matter of couldn’t, just wouldn’t. At least thats my opinion.
