John Russell, 3rd Baron Ampthill 2
He fought in the First World War.4 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.4 In April 1922 he petitioned for divorce on account of his wife's adultery, with misconduct alleged as early as November 1918.3 In 1923 he again petitioned for a divorce, and disclaimed paternity of his son, Geoffrey. The petition was overturned on appeal in 1924.3 In 1925 his wife was granted a declaration that his son was legitmate (although this seems doubtful given the various claims.)3 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Ampthill, of Ampthill, co. Bedford [U.K., 1881] on 7 July 1935.3 He fought in the Second World War.4 He was awarded the Officer, U.S. Legion of Merit.4 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre in 1945 avec palmes.4 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1945.4
