     Lt.-Col. Henry Charles Cunliffe-Owen was born on 16 October 1821 at Lausanne, Switzerland.1 He was the son of Captain Charles Cunliffe-Owen and Mary Peckwell Blossett.1 He married Agnes Cubitt, daughter of Lewis Cubitt, in 1855 at London, England.1 He died on 7 March 1867 at age 45.1
     He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on 19 March 1839 in the Royal Engineers.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, England.1 He fought in the Kaffir War between 1846 and 1847.1 He fought in the Crimean War, where he lost a leg.1 He was Assistant Inspector-General of Fortifications, War Office between October 1855 and 1856.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)1 He was Deputy Inspector-General of Fortifications, War Office between April 1856 and August 1860.1 He was awarded the Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel on 1 April 1862.1

     Agnes Cubitt is the daughter of Lewis Cubitt.1 She married, firstly, Lt.-Col. Henry Charles Cunliffe-Owen, son of Captain Charles Cunliffe-Owen and Mary Peckwell Blossett, in 1855 at London, England.1 She married, secondly, Reverend Henry Edward Willington in 1872.1
     From 1855, her married name became Cunliffe-Owen.1 From 1872, her married name became Willington.1
