     Janet Payne Carlyle was the daughter of unknown Carlyle of Brydekirk and Brakenquhate.2 She married Donald Macdonald, son of Donald Macdonald and Mary Maclean, on 12 August 1754.1 She died on 29 December 1796.1
     From 12 August 1754, her married name became Macdonald.

William Bell Macdonald, 2nd of Rammerscales1

     William Bell Macdonald, 2nd of Rammerscales was born on 26 December 1807.1 He was the son of Donald Macdonald and Mary Bell.2 He married Helen Johnston, daughter of Thomas Johnston of Underwood, on 23 March 1839.1 He died on 5 December 1862 at age 54.1
     He graduated from Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Surgeon in the Royal Navy.1 In 1837 he succeeded his uncle in Rammerscales.1 He was Physician to Catherine the Great, Tsarina of Russia.1 He was a linguist and classical scholar.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Dumfries-shire.1

     Major William Bell Macdonald, 3rd of Rammerscales was born on 9 January 1845.1 He was the son of William Bell Macdonald, 2nd of Rammerscales and Helen Johnston.2 He married Violet Frances Rutherford, daughter of James Buckley Rutherford, on 19 September 1882.1 He died on 16 June 1923 at age 78.1
     He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.1 He was educated at Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 He gained the rank of Major in the 1st Regiment (Royal Scots.)1
