     James Reid was born on 8 September 1823.¹ He was the son of William Reid and Mary Miller.² He married, firstly, Margaret Ann Scott, daughter of James Scott and Elizabeth Thomson, on 1 January 1851.¹ He married, secondly, Charlotte Geddes, daughter of John Geddes, on 6 June 1886.² He died on 23 June 1894 at age 70.²
