     Patrick Rupert Cottrell was born on 14 June 1945.1 He is the son of Patrick Nelson Hickman and Leontine Mariette Dyson-Perrins.2 He married, firstly, Claire Round, daughter of Lt.-Col. James Gray Round and Susan Tritton, on 19 October 1968.1 He and Claire Round were divorced in 1989.1 He married, secondly, Anne Holbrook, daughter of Arthur Ralph Holbrook, on 17 July 1989.2 He and Anne Holbrook were divorced in 1997.2
     He was given the name of Patrick Rupert Hickman at birth.2 Patrick Rupert Cottrell usually went by his middle name of Rupert.2 In 1953 his name was legally changed to Patrick Rupert Cottrell by Deed Poll.2 He was educated at Gordonstoun School, Elgin, Morayshire, ScotlandG.1 He lived in 2003 at The Stable Cottages, Great Meadow, Malew, Castletown, Isle of ManG.1

     From 19 October 1968, her married name became Cottrell.1
