Brig.-Gen. Sir James Tennant was born in 1789.1 He was the son of William Tennant.2 He married Elizabeth Paterson.3 He died in 1854.1
He was educated at Marlow Military School.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.1 He fought in the Battle of Chilianwala, commander of artillery.1 He fought in the Battle of Gujerat.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1849.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the Royal Artillery.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1852.1

Lt.-Gen. James Francis Tennant was born on 10 January 1829.1 He was the son of Brig.-Gen. Sir James Tennant and Elizabeth Paterson.2,3 He was baptised on 10 February 1829 at Calcutta, India.3 He died on 6 March 1915 at age 86.1
He fought in the Indian Mutiny in 1858.1 He was Government Astronomer, Madras in 1859.1 He was with the Public Works Department in 1863.1 He held the office of Master of the Mint [Calcutta] between 1874 and 1884.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1879.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Astronomical Society (F.R.A.S.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1884 in the Royal Engineers.1
