Sir Alexander Murray of Blackbarony, 2nd Bt. was the son of Sir Archibald Murray of Blackbarony, 1st Bt. and Margaret Maule.2 He married, firstly, Margaret Cockburn, daughter of Sir Richard Cockburn of Clerkington.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Murray, daughter of Sir John Murray of Halmyre.2 He died between 1667 and 1669.2
He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Murray, of Blackbarony, co. Peebles [N.S., 1628] circa 1634.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Peebles-shire between 1639 and 1641.2 He was a royalist during the Civil War period.2 In 1646 he was fined as a Royalist.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Peebles-shire in 1657.2

Sir Alexander Gilmour of Craigmillar, 1st Bt. was baptised in 1657.1 He was the son of Sir John Gilmour of Craigmillar and Margaret Murray.2 He married Grizel Ross, daughter of George Ross, 11th Lord Ross of Halkhead and Lady Grizel Cochrane.1 He died in October 1731.1
He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court in 1672.1 He was created 1st Baronet Gilmour, of Craigmillar [Nova Scotia] on 1 February 1678.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Edinburgh in 1698.1 He had nine other children.1
