     He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1940.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Engineers.1 He was with ICI.1
