     Lt.-Col. Sir David Clive Crosbie Trench was born on 2 June 1915.1 He was the son of William Launcelot Crosbie Trench and Margaret Zephanie Huddleston.1 He married Margaret Gould, daughter of Jay D. Gould, on 18 August 1944.1 He died on 4 December 1988 at age 73 at Dorset, England.1,2
     He was educated in 1925 at Tonbridge School, Tonbridge, Kent, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 In 1938 he entered the Colonial Service.1 He fought in the Second World War in 1939, with the Solomon Islands Defence Force.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1944.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1945.1 He was educated in 1949 at Joint Services Command and Staff College, Swindon, Wiltshire, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Assistant Secretary for Hong Kong in 1950.1 He was educated in 1958 at Imperial Defence College, London, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Deputy Colonial Secretary for Hong Kong between 1959 and 1960.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1960.1 He held the office of High Commissioner for the Western Pacific Territories between 1961 and 1964.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1962.1 He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Hong Kong between 1964 and 1971.1 He was appointed Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.)1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Hong Kong University, Hong KongG, in 1968.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1969.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Dorset in 1979.1

     Franz Ludwig Johann Baptist Graf von Meran was born on 11 March 1839 at Vienna, AustriaG.1 He was the son of Johann Baptist Joseph Erzherzog von Österreich and Anne Marie Josephine Plochl Gräfin von Meran.1 He married Theresia Gräfin von Lamberg, daughter of Franz Philipp Graf von Lamberg and Caroline Gräfin Hoyos, on 8 July 1862 at Ottenstein, GermanyG.1 He died on 27 March 1891 at age 52 at Opatija, CroatiaG.1
     He gained the title of Baron von Brandhofen.1 He held the office of Imperial and Royal Privy Counsellor and Chamberlain.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Golden Fleece.1

     From 8 July 1862, her married name became von Meran.
