John Foster, 1st Baron Oriel of Ferrard1

     John Foster, 1st Baron Oriel of Ferrard was baptised on 28 September 1740.2 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Anthony Foster and Elizabeth Burgh.2 He married Margarita Amelia Burgh, Viscountess Ferrard, daughter of Thomas Burgh and Anne Downes, on 14 December 1764.1 He died on 23 August 1828 at age 87.3
     He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dunleer [Ireland] between 1761 and 1768.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Louth [Ireland] between 1761 and 1800.2 He was a practising barrister in 1766.2 He held the office of Chancellor of the Exchequer [Ireland] from 1784 to 1785.2 He held the office of Speaker of the House of Commons [Ireland] between 1785 and 1800.4,5 He was appointed Privy Councillor (P.C.) in 1786.2 He was appointed Privy Councillor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1799.1,2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Louth between 1801 and 1821.2 He held the office of Chancellor of the Exchequer [Ireland] between 1804 and 1806.2 He held the office of Commissioner of the Treasury between 1807 and 1811.2 He was created 1st Baron Oriel of Ferrard, co. Louth [U.K.] on 17 July 1821.4

     Anne Burgh was the daughter of Thomas Burgh and Anne Downes.2 She married Rt. Hon. Walter Hussey Burgh, son of Ignatius Hussey and Elizabeth Burgh, on 4 July 1767.1 She died in 1782.1
     From 4 July 1767, her married name became Hussey Burgh.1

Henry Maxwell Lefroy1
