     James Dewar of Carrington and Heriot was born circa 1620.1 He was the son of James Dewar.2 He married, firstly, unknown wife (?)1 He married, thirdly, Christian Ronaldson, daughter of George Ronaldson of Braidwood, before 1660.1 He died on 12 August 1699.1
     He was captain of a merchantman.1 He held the office of Burgess of Capplelaw.1 He purchased Carrington in 1694.1

     James Dewar, 1st of Vogrie was born in 1664.2 He was the son of James Dewar of Carrington and Heriot and unknown wife (?)2 He married, firstly, Jean Halyburton, daughter of Patrick Halyburton, on 13 February 1701.2 He married, secondly, Janet Johnston on 11 September 1709.2 He married, thirdly, Isobel Brown on 18 August 1723.2 He died on 26 January 1744.2
     He held the office of Burgess of Edinburgh in 1697.2 He held the office of Burgess of Canongate in 1708.2 He held the office of Baron Baillie of Leith in 1709.2 He held the office of Baron Baillie of Edinburgh in 1713.2 He held the office of Baron Baillie of Canongate in 1714.2 He purchased Vogrie, Midlothian on 3 February 1719.2 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court in 1743.2

     He matriculated at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, on 13 May 1685.1 He was a merchant at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was Postmaster General of Leith and Edinburgh.1 He had an elder son.1
