     unknown wife (?) married Sir William Borthwick, 2nd Lord Borthwick, son of Sir William Borthwick, 1st Lord Borthwick and unknown wife (?), circa 21 November 1458.3
     From circa 21 November 1458, her married name became Borthwick.3

William Borthwick, 4th Lord Borthwick1

     William Borthwick, 4th Lord Borthwick was the son of Sir William Borthwick, 3rd Lord Borthwick.1 He married Margaret Hay, daughter of John Hay, 1st Lord Hay of Yester and Elizabeth Cunningham, in 1491.1,2 He died from 28 May 1543 to 19 February 1543/44.1
     He succeeded as the 4th Lord Borthwick [S., 1452] on 20 May 1503.1 He was guardian of the infant King James V, after the Scottish defeat at Flodden in 1513.3 On 7 October 1517 he sealed a peace treaty with England.1 He held the office of Governor of Stirling Castle.3 On 21 August 1538 he settled his lands in strict tail male, with an ultimate remainder to his heirs male whatsoever bearing the name and arms of Borthwick.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.4

     Margaret Hay is the daughter of John Hay, 1st Lord Hay of Yester and Elizabeth Cunningham.1,2 She married William Borthwick, 4th Lord Borthwick, son of Sir William Borthwick, 3rd Lord Borthwick, in 1491.1,3
     From 1491, her married name became Borthwick.3 Note that Burke's shows Margaret as the wife of William Borthwick, 3rd Lord Borthwick, and mother of William, 4th Lord.3

Thomas Borthwick, Master of Borthwick1

     Thomas Borthwick, Master of Borthwick was the son of William Borthwick, 4th Lord Borthwick and Margaret Hay.1 He married Mariot Seton, daughter of George Seton, 3rd Lord Seton and Lady Janet Hepburn.1 He died between 28 November 1528 and 21 August 1538.2
     He was styled as Master of Borthwick.1 He was also known as Arthur Borthwick.1 His marriage to Mariot Seton was annulled from 15 December 1530 to February 1530/31 by the Pope, on account of consanguinity.1,3

     John Borthwick, 5th Lord Borthwick was the son of William Borthwick, 4th Lord Borthwick and Margaret Hay.1 He married Isobel Lindsay, daughter of David Lindsay, 8th Earl of Crawford and Isobel Lundie, before 1544.1 He died on 28 March 1566.1
     He succeeded as the 5th Lord Borthwick [S., 1452] in 1543/44.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1545.1 He fought in the Battle of Ancrum Muir in March 1544/45.1

     William Borthwick, 6th Lord Borthwick was the son of John Borthwick, 5th Lord Borthwick and Isobel Lindsay.1 He married Grissel Scott, daughter of Sir Walter Scott, 3rd of Buccleuch and Janet Bethune, before 1570.1 He died in October 1582 at Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, from 'the French disease'.1 His will was proven (by probate) on 29 January 1583/84.1
     He succeeded as the 6th Lord of Borthwick [S., 1452] in March 1565/66.1 In June 1567 he entertained Mary, Queen of Scots, along with the Earl of Bothwell.1 On 15 January 1579/80 proceedings were instituted against Grissel for an alleged intrigue, but later abandoned.1 On 24 September 1581 Grissel lodged a complaint against her husband for desertion and cruelty.1

     Grissel Scott was born before 1552.2 She was the daughter of Sir Walter Scott, 3rd of Buccleuch and Janet Bethune.1 She married, firstly, William Borthwick, 6th Lord Borthwick, son of John Borthwick, 5th Lord Borthwick and Isobel Lindsay, before 1570.1 She married, secondly, Walter Cairncross before 1593.1
