He married Victorie Alix Helene Luise Beatrice Prinzessin von Hessen und bei Rhein, daughter of Ludwig IV Friedrich Wilhelm Karl Großherzog von Hessen und bei Rhein and Alice Maud Mary Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Princess of the United Kingdom, on 26 November 1894 at Winter Palace, St. Petersburg, RussiaG.1 He died on 16 July 1918 at age 50 at Ekaterinburg, RussiaG, executed by the Bolsheviks.1
