Sir James 'Mor' Macdonald, 9th of Sleat, 2nd Bt. was the son of Sir Donald Macdonald, 8th of Sleat, 1st Bt. and Janet Mackenzie.1 He married by contract, firstly, Margaret Mackenzie, daughter of Sir Roderick Mackenzie of Castle Leod and Margaret Macleod, on 23 February 1633.2 He married, secondly, Mary Macleod, daughter of Ian 'Mor' Macleod, 16th of MacLeod and Sybella Mackenzie, on 8 December 1675.3 He died on 8 December 1678.1
He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Macdonald, of Sleat, in the Isle of Skye, co. Inverness [N.S., 1625] in October 1643.1 In 1645 he supported the Royal cause, and again in 1651.1 In 1664 he quelled a disturbance in the Highalnds.1

Sir Donald Macdonald, 8th of Sleat, 1st Bt. was the son of Archibald Macdonald and Margaret Macdonald.1 He married Janet Mackenzie, daughter of Kenneth Mackenzie, 1st Lord Mackenzie of Kintail and Jean Anne Ross.1 He died in October 1643.1
Sir Donald Macdonald, 8th of Sleat, 1st Bt. also went by the nick-name of Donald 'Gorm' (or in English, 'Blue-eyed.1') He was created 1st Baronet Macdonald, of Sleat, in the Isle of Skye, co. Inverness [Nova Scotia] on 14 July 1625.1 He supported Charles I in the Civil War.1
