George Crichton, 1st and last Earl of Caithness1

     George Crichton, 1st and last Earl of Caithness was the son of Sir Stephen Crichton of Cairns and unknown daughter Cairns.2,3 He married, secondly, Janet Borthwick, daughter of Sir William Borthwick, 2nd of Borthwick and Beatrice Sinclair.1 He married, firstly, unknown daughter Douglas, daughter of Sir William Douglas of Strabrock, before 1425.2,4 He died in August 1454.2
     In 1440 he allied against the Douglases, including the judicial murder of the 6th Earl of Douglas.4 He held the office of Captain of Stirling Castle.2 He held the office of High Admiral [Scotland] in 1448.2 He was created 1st Earl of Caithness [Scotland] on 8 July 1452.1,2 He resigned as Earl of Caithness after July 1454.2

     George Borthwick was born circa 1385.1 He was the son of Sir William Borthwick, 1st of Borthwick.1 He died in 1447, without issue.1
     He was the Rector at Lochorwort, ScotlandG.1 He held the office of Archdeacon of Glasgow.1

     Sir William Abernethy of Saltoun, younger was the son of Sir William Abernethy, 6th of Saltoun and Lady Mary Stewart.2 He married Margaret Borthwick, daughter of Sir William Borthwick, 1st of Borthwick.1 He died on 24 July 1411 at Harlaw, ScotlandG, killed in action.1,3
     He fought in the Battle of Harlaw on 24 July 1411.4
