Popeye the Sailor meets Sinbad the Sailor Screen Print by Tom Whalen

Popeye the Sailor meets Sinbad the Sailor Standard Edition Screen Print by Tom Whalen x Dark Hall Mansion

This Friday, Dark Hall Mansion will be releasing this killer limited edition, officially licensed screen print movie poster for Popeye the Sailor meets Sinbad the Sailor by Tom Whalen! Whalen's beautiful design is based on the classic 1936 long-format Fleischer Studios cartoon classic that finds everyone's favorite sailor matching wits with Bluto (er, Sindbad!) in Max Fleischer's singular Popeye Color Special. This 16 minute Popeye special was so well received it was nominated for a 1936 Academy Award for the best short category: Cartoons, and has since been formally recognized by the United States Library of Congress as “culturally significant” and selected for preservation within the National Film Registry. It’s even been recognized as #17 among the Greatest Cartoons of all time by members of the animation field.

Popeye the Sailor meets Sinbad the Sailor Variant Screen Print by Tom Whalen x Dark Hall Mansion

This is Dark Hall Mansion's first officially licensed Fleischer release, and The Blot hopes we see many, many more to come! “Popeye the Sailor meets Sinbad the Sailor” by Tom Whalen is an 18”x24” hand numbered screen print. The Standard Edition has a limited edition run size of 280 pieces and will retail for $65, while the Variant Edition is limited to 50 pieces and will retail for $100. DHM is also producing 10 Foil Variants of each version, which will retail for $150. All four versions go on sale at 9:30am PST this Friday, January 29th, at the Dark Hall Mansion online store.

Cartoon Canvases by kaNO

The four pieces of original artwork that make up the Cartoon Canvas Series were created by kaNO for the Street Tribes show he did with Jesse Hernandez earlier this year. Each painting features an iconic cartoon character painted in kaNO’s classic style. The Cartoon Canvas Series includes Papa Smurf, Popeye, Marvin the Martian and Mickey Mouse.

As kaNO explained, “I wanted to do something fun for this set of canvases, so I decided to paint 4 of my favorite cartoon characters. I wanted to see if I could recreate these characters from memory while adding a subtle twist.”

Each piece is entirely painted in acrylics on a 10 inch x 10 inch stretched canvas, and all four are available for purchase right now at The kaNO shop for $300 each.
