Chemical diagrams

[edit]

I had to revert or correct many of your recent edits regarding chemical diagrams. The reasons are as follow:

  1. some were not applicable for given items (e.g. wrong stereoisomer, not the correct form of a compound, not the compound that is described in an item etc.)
  2. some were annotated as 'disputed' in Commons due to chemical errors or other inaccuracies.
  3. wrong properties used: in chemistry-related items use chemical structure (P117) for chemical structure diagrams and image of molecular model or crystal lattice model (P8224) for 3D chemical models (ball-and-stick, vdW) and crystal structures. You shouldn't use image (P18) for these, in fact there usually should be no image (P18) in chemistry-related items (one of the exceptions are photos of samples of compounds).
  4. related image (P6802) should only be used when there is no other illustration in the item (from the property documentation: unfitting image, used only because a better alternative is not available); what's more schematic (P5555) should not be used for adding chemical reactions to chemical compounds items, as it basically makes no sense, such file is unusable for anyone if not properly annotated and files about chemical reactions should be put in items describing chemical reactions where every part of the reaction can be properly described.

So I'm asking you to:

  1. don't use FIST tool for chemistry-related items or change the properties from image (P18) to chemical structure (P117)/image of molecular model or crystal lattice model (P8224) after using FIST
  2. carefully check whether a file should be added to an item — every file should be checked before adding to Wikidata from Wikipedia, because Wikidata is much more detailed than Wikipedia (what is described in Wikipedia article may be described in Wikidata in dozens or even hundreds of different items and files have to be carefully added only to correct items). In other words a few examples: every stereoisomer have its own item, and in every item there should be illustrations only for a specific stereoisomer, illustrations about synthesis should be present in an item describing such synthesis, not in an item about a compound; illustration about a pharmaceutical product should be in an item about a specific pharm. product (brand), not in an item about an active compound; illustration about a protonated or deprotonated form should be in a respective item, e.g. illustration about an anion cannot be in an item about its protonated form and vice versa.

Hi. Flagging that Wikisource works would typically get their own item with version, edition or translation (Q3331189) which when then links to the written work. YOU can see how I have set that up at The Secret History (Q110730009)Secret History (Q1216263)  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:59, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edits

[edit]

Hello! If You want to replace image in item (like here) don't undo previous correct edits. Just replace image. Please, don't undo any correct edits at all.--Ksc~ruwiki (talk) 18:52, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

SR-71C

[edit]

Hello, I noticed you added photographs to Lockheed SR-71C Blackbird (Q104680826). Unfortunately, the photographs you added were of different Blackbirds, one 71A and one 71B. We do not have any freely licensed images of the 71C available at this time, so no photographs can be added to that item. I've removed your images for that reason. Thank you, and please let me know if you have any questions. Huntster (t @ c) 19:25, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

YT Channels

[edit]

I see you created a bunch of items for yt channels. Could you go through and properly tag them with instance of (P31)? At least they should all be classified as YouTube channel (Q17558136). BrokenSegue (talk) 14:56, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Can you edit Q1167393 page ? Because the page is protected now. So can you add the link of jawiki (ja:経済指標) on Q1167393 ? 126.205.106.35 14:49, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are you a vandal?

[edit]

Hi Outermayo,

please explain the low quality of your edits to @BrokenSegue, Huntster, Wostr: (and me).--Cookie pusher (talk) 22:37, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what edits they have in mind but I glanced at your recent batches and found this edit which is totally wrong. please be more careful. BrokenSegue (talk) 22:51, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I requested the reversion of that batch at Wikidata:Edit groups/QSv2/79504. But I'm more broadly concerned about the quality of your edits. BrokenSegue (talk) 23:15, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Going farther back looks like Wikidata:Edit groups/QSv2/79501 also needs to be reverted. And further back still you created a bunch of items like Q111309140 but they all contain constraint violations. You need to stop editing and discuss this with us. BrokenSegue (talk) 23:24, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My concern is that this account shows the hallmarks of being an automated data importer that hasn't applied for a bot account. The edits are simply too rapid to be individually checked by human eyes. Nothing has been declared, no methodology provided. I'd be in favour of blocking on that alone until they decide to actually engage in dialogue, but there appear to be plenty of other reasons as well. Huntster (t @ c) 01:02, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As I was mentioned here: in the past I noticed a problem with using FIST tool to import chemistry-related diagrams, after my comment on this talk page, this activity was discontinued. Yesterday I reverted a few (semi-)automatic edits with GoldBook ID that was matched to incorrect items. I do not know of any other problems with edits from this account. Wostr (talk) 15:19, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Wostr: I have blocked this user from the main namespace until they respond to comments on their talk page. Users must be willing to respond to criticism especially when they are doing large batch jobs. BrokenSegue (talk) 20:40, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Batch additions of IDs

[edit]

Hello. Your recent batches of ID additions contained quite some issues, some of which I already reverted with explanation.

When doing large scale alignment one can imagine doing some basic consistency checks, like seeing whether the item is already linked (potentially with a different ID) or whether the ID is already used on the different item. But after that, one should still carefully check whether the remaining alignments are correct: Checking the label for a technical concept is not enough, there might be subtle differences between items with the same label.

Thanks. Toni 001 (talk) 08:29, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ZVG names

[edit]

Hello,

you've not faithfully copied the German name of 2,5-dihydroxy-5-methyl-3-(morpholin-4-yl)-2-cyclopenten-1-one (Q110456978), the -e is too much. Käpt'n Knips (talk) 14:10, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted empty item

[edit]

I have deleted Q110722841 because it was empty and wasn’t being used anywhere. An item is empty if it does not have any claims or sitelinks. Unfortunately, such items are not useful to Wikidata, and they are normally deleted. If you were planning to return to this item later in order to complete it, please let me know as I can restore it if appropriate. Remember that all items are expected to demonstrate notability and, although this might not apply in this case, we strongly discourage editors from creating items where they have a conflict of interest, for example about themselves or their employers.
