Fresh v. dried plums

[edit]

Previous labels/descriptions

EN prune/fruit

NL Pruim/Pruim (which means “plum”)

DE Trockenpflaume/ -- (which means “dried plum”)

This item exhibited an ambiguity that may be apparent to all but American, including Canadian, readers. Perhaps the item was created to accommodate the article EN Prune, which exhibits the same ambiguity. It is this: In the article EN Prune, the word “prune” is (a) virtually a synonym of Q6401215 (any fruit of the subgenus Prunus, plum, of the genus Prunus) as fresh fruit, and (b) any plum, dried. The NL label for this item reflected meaning (a) and the DE label reflected meaning (b). In Britain, meaning (b) is dominant and meaning (a) is technical, regional, or archaic.

Of the articles that link to Q6766526, FR Pruneau discusses a variety of plum much used for making dried plums but chiefly addresses the dried product. As far as I can see, all of the other articles that link to Q6766526 are about (b) dried plums.

I have changed the labels and descriptions accordingly.
