Big Tech

[edit]

Over on English Wikipedia, we merged articles about "w:en:GAFA" and "w:en:GAFAM" to create a "w:en:Big Tech" article. As of right now, the English "Big Tech" article points to Big Tech (Q3122864), but it seems we shouldn't have quantity of companies in the label. What do you all think? -- RobLa (talk) 02:38, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also note, I commented on Talk:Q3122864 about this, and I hightlighted this at Wikidata:Interwiki_conflicts/Unresolved/2020#April_2020 earlier this month. -- RobLa (talk) 03:50, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

GAFA / GAFAM

[edit]

Alright, I think I see a plan forward for the interlingual GAFA/GAFAM merge. I'm going to do this:

  1. Relabel Big Tech (web) (Q30748112) from "GAFAM" to "Giants of the web" in English, and from "GAFAM" to "Géants du Web" in French
  2. Associate wikipedia:fr:Géants du Web with Big Tech (web) (Q30748112) (which will be labeled "Giants of the web" in English, per step 1)
  3. Associate wikipedia:fr:GAFAM with Big Tech (Q3122864)

This is to clean up from the reassignments and confusion that's been going on for months, but I just wanted to write out my plan before I finish these last few steps. Hopefully things will settle down after these last few steps. -- RobLa (talk) 23:42, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

FAANG doesn't make sense

[edit]

Given that there is also a Wikidata item for "Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google" (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google (Q56276799)), it seemed silly to have "FAANG" at the top of the list of English aliases for "Big Tech", which is what Big Tech (web) (Q30748112) is currently referred to as (in English). -- RobLa (talk) 06:36, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
