Welcome to the WikiProject Awards!
Goals
[edit]The goal of this project is to define, maintain and document the Wikidata model (⧼items⧽/⧼properties⧽) about the management of awards and how to use them.
Structure
[edit]There are different items related to awards:
- General items for a whole group of awards, distributed during the same ceremony (especially for film awards) : e.g. Academy Awards (Q19020), David di Donatello (Q31579), Genie Awards (Q1502249), etc.
- General items for a type of award, encompassing awards based on stylistic, thematic or technical criteria : e.g. award for best leading actor (Q96474691), journalism prize (Q1709894), honorary award (Q96474707), etc.
- Items for a specific award : e.g. Academy Award for Best Dance Direction (Q498690), David di Donatello for Best Foreign Actress (Q3404521), Canadian Screen Award for Best Screenplay (Q4376980)
- Items for a specific years and ceremonies (usually one per year) : e.g. 46th Academy Awards (Q570921), 3rd David di Donatello Awards (Q3703392), 5th Genie Awards (Q2817842)
Group of awards items
[edit]- The general items should have subclass of (P279): award (Q618779) or any subclass thereof (literary award (Q378427), pornographic film award (Q18772252), etc.)
- Other important properties include:
Specific award items
[edit]- The specific award items should have instance of (P31): award (Q618779) or any subclass thereof (literary award (Q378427), pornographic film award (Q18772252), etc.)
- When part of a group of awards, they should have instance of (P31) : the group of award. For example : Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (Q106291) : instance of (P31) : Academy Awards (Q19020)
- Other useful properties include:
Year/ceremony items
[edit]- Ceremony items should have instance of (P31) = award ceremony (Q4504495) or any subclass, but not instance of (P31)=award (Q618779).
- They should use location (P276), point in time (P585) (and start time (P580) and end time (P582) if the ceremony spans several days)
- Either the ceremony item or the subclass of award ceremony (Q4504495) should use facet of (P1269) linked to the corresponding group of awards:
- They should use awarded for period (P4566) for the period during which the achievement must have been made
Award recipient
[edit]- The recipient of the award should have the award received (P166) property, linked to the specific award given. This property should primarily be on the item of the person receiving the award, but it can also be added on the item of the work, when applicable. This property can have the following quantifiers:
- statement is subject of (P805) : the award ceremony item, e.g. statement is subject of (P805) = 50th Academy Awards (Q282159)
- point in time (P585) : to specify the date, especially if the ceremony is not specified
- time period (P2348) : to specify the award year according to a calendar system other than the Gregorian (for awards whose identity is determined by a year on another calendar system).
- winner (P1346) : for award received (P166) on the item of a specific film, novel, etc., specify the person given the award.
- for work (P1686) : for award received (P166) on the item of a person, specify the work for which the item was awarded.
- together with (P1706) : for award received (P166) on the item of a person, specify joint winner(s). i.e. Nobel Prize
- award rationale (P6208) : to add short citation explaining the official reason for awarding a prize to a winner
- The same logic can be applied to nominees, substituting nominated for (P1411) for award received (P166) and nominee (P2453) for winner (P1346)

- Items both instance of award and award ceremony. Most of these awards are actually award ceremony and the instance of award (or subclass) should be removed.
