Railway workings on Portsea Island were once fascinating to watch. At one time we had the line to East Southsea; the Portsmouth gasworks railway; the Hilsea industrial lines; the line across the viaduct to South Railway Jetty and, perhaps the most noticeable as it passed in front of passengers, was the old branch line to the dockyard.

After our visit to the new Mary Rose Museum, we headed straight to HMS Victory. HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is most famous as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. She was also Keppel's flagship at Ushant, Howe's flagship at Cape Spartel and Jervis's flagship at Cape St Vincent.
