Lenovo on Friday said it will pull the ThinkPad 8 tablet from the U.S. market, but denied that it will stop selling small form factor tablets in the U.S. altogether.
"We will continue to bring new Windows devices to market across different screen sizes, including a new 8-inch tablet and 10-inch tablet coming this holiday," Lenovo said in a statement. "Our model mix changes as per customer demand, [but] we are not getting out of the small-screen Windows tablet business."
The other 8-inch tablet Lenovo offers in the U.S., the Miix 2, has "sold out," the company said.
Reports about Lenovo ditching small tablets in the U.S. emerged today after a Lenovo spokesperson told told PC World that demand for the ThinkPad 8 "has been much stronger" in regions like Brazil, China, and Japan, "so we are adjusting our ThinkPad 8 inventories to meet increasing demand in those markets."
For now, U.S. shoppers interested in a Lenovo tablet will have to opt for their larger cousins: The 10.1-inch Thinkpad 10 ($693) and the 10.1-inch Miix 2 ($499).
The Thinkpad 8 arrived in the U.S. in January of this year, whereas the Miix 2 came out last September.
