History of UPSC
Lord Lee of Fareham set up the Royal Commission on Superior Civil Service in 1923 under his chairmanship. Indian and British members were in equal numbers in 1924 on the report submitted by the Public Service Commission.
Here are some key pointers of the Lee Commission:-–
- 40% of future recruitment should be British
- 40% of Indians should be directly recruited
- 20% of Indians from provisional services should be promoted
The First Public Service Commission was set on 1st October 1926 under the chairmanship of Sir Ross Barker. It was a limited advisory role body with little power. So, with the help of the Government of India Act 1935, the Federal Union Public Service Commission became the Union Public Service Commission, which is UPSC post-independence on 26th January 1950.
The full form of UPSC CSE is the Civil Services Examination. CSE is one of the most prestigious and popular exams which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Civil Services Aptitude Test is the full form of CSAT. UPSC CSE Prelims has 2 General Studies papers, one of them is CSAT paper i.e., officially known as General Studies Paper 2. It was first introduced in 2011 to assess the aptitude, reasoning ability, and analytical skills of UPSC aspirants
‘संघ लोक सेवा आयोग’ is the full form of UPSC in Hindi. UPSC is one of the most prestigious, popular and independent working organizations in the country.

The functions of the UPSC are:
- Conduct different examinations for candidates seeking employment in Union services.
- Direct hiring followed by interview selection.
- Officer appointments based on promotions, deputations, or incorporations.
