Father and Son Among Five Inducted Into the Mississippi Gaming Hall of Fame
The Mississippi Gaming Hall of Fame has announced its new inductees, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the gaming industry in the state and beyond. This prestigious honor highlights their impactful careers and dedication to advancing the gaming sector.
Tim Hinkley, an industry pioneer, is among the distinguished honorees. As the general manager of the Isle of Capri Casino, he oversaw the opening of Mississippi’s first casino in 1992.
Under his leadership, the Isle of Capri Casino set a precedent for the state’s gaming industry, paving the way for future developments and establishing Mississippi as a major player in the national gaming landscape.
Hinkley’s efforts significantly contributed to the economic growth and tourism boom in Mississippi, providing a new source of revenue and entertainment for the region.
Another notable inductee is Jon Lucas, who served as the general manager at the IP Casino Resort Spa in Biloxi from 2005 to 2011, a period marked by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Lucas demonstrated exceptional leadership and resilience by spearheading the recovery efforts at the casino, ensuring it could reopen and continue to serve as a major attraction in Biloxi.
His initiatives not only restored the casino’s operations but also contributed to the broader recovery of the local community and economy, highlighting the vital role of the gaming industry in regional rebuilding efforts.
The Hall of Fame also posthumously honors William Gresham Jr., the first chairman of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, a regulatory body essential for overseeing the state’s gaming industry.
Serving from 1993 through 2001, Gresham’s tenure helped shape the regulatory framework that governs Mississippi’s gaming industry, ensuring its integrity and stability. His leadership was instrumental in establishing a robust and fair regulatory environment, fostering industry growth while maintaining high standards of operation and compliance.
Continuing the legacy of his father, Thomas Gresham served as a commissioner of the Mississippi Gaming Commission from 2015 through 2023. His period of service was marked by significant regulatory advancements and oversight, ensuring the continued integrity and growth of Mississippi’s gaming industry.
Thomas Gresham’s contributions included addressing contemporary challenges, adapting regulations to meet the industry’s evolving needs, and supporting sustainable development and consumer protection.
Larry Gregory, the Executive Director of the Mississippi Gaming and Hospitality Association, emphasized the significant and meaningful contributions of these honorees. Gregory highlighted that the Hall of Fame celebrates leaders who exemplify exceptional personal and professional qualities, serving as role models within the industry.
He noted that the legacies of these inductees are closely tied to Mississippi’s overall success in the gaming sector, reflecting their lasting impact on the state’s economic and social landscape.
The inductees will be honored at the sixth annual Hall of Fame Dinner Gala, a prestigious event celebrating the achievements and contributions of key figures in the gaming industry.
The Mississippi Gaming and Hospitality Association sponsors the event, which is scheduled for June 27 at the MGM Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, one of the state’s premier gaming and entertainment destinations.
