THE OPERATING
SYSTEMS AND ITS
FUNCTIONS
D.S. VISHWADHAR – 5A2
WHAT IS A COMPUTER?
A computer is a. device for working with
information. The information can be numbers, words, pictures, movies, or sounds. Computer information is also called data. Computers can process huge amounts of data very quickly. WHAT IS AN OPERATING SYSTEM?
An Operating System is the interface
between the computer hardware and the end-user. Processing of data, running applications, file management and handling the memory is all managed by the computer OS. Windows, Mac, Android etc. WHAT DOES AN OPERATING SYSTEM DO? The operating system (OS) manages all of the software and hardware on the computer. It performs basic tasks such as file, memory and process management, handling input and output, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers. WHAT ARE THE 5 MAIN TYPES OF OPERATING SYSTEMS?
Some examples of operating systems
include Apple macOS, Microsoft Windows, Google's Android OS, Linux Operating System, and Apple iOS CHOOSING HOW TO USE /INTERACT WITH OUR COMPUTERS? We can use computers in two ways: through pictures and buttons (GUI) or by typing commands (CLI). GUI is easier for beginners, while CLI gives more control. We can switch between them based on what we like and the tasks we need to do. OS FOR SPECIAL DEVICES
Operating systems designed specifically
for gadgets like smartphones, smart TVs, gaming consoles, and wearables. These OSs are tailored to each device's unique functions and features, enabling smooth performance and specialized capabilities. OS FOR MOBILE PHONES AND TABLETS The operating systems designed specifically for smartphones and tablets, like iOS and Android. These OSs provide the interface and control for these devices, allowing users to make calls, send messages, browse the internet, use apps, and more. They are tailored for mobile usage, ensuring smooth and efficient functionality on our mobile OS for Powerful Servers
Operating systems designed for high-
performance servers. These OSs efficiently manage resources, handle heavy workloads, and provide secure performance. They ensure reliable operation for critical applications and websites on these powerful computers. DISTRIBUTED OS – WORKING TOGETHER
Multiple computers teaming up to work
together. They share tasks and resources to get things done faster and more efficiently. It's like a group of friends working as a team to accomplish a task, each contributing their skills to achieve the goal. OPERATING SYSTEMS IN EVERYDAY LIFE Operating systems are like the brains of our devices, such as computers and smartphones. They manage everything behind the scenes, allowing us to do tasks like making calls, sending messages, browsing the internet, and using apps. Operating systems make our devices easy to use and ensure that everything works together smoothly, like an invisible helper that makes our everyday tasks possible. PROS OF OPERATING SYSTEMS
Operating systems have several benefits that make our
devices easier to use and more efficient. They provide a user-friendly interface, like a visual guide, with icons, buttons, and menus that we can easily understand and interact with. Operating systems also manage the resources of our devices, such as memory and processing power, so that different tasks can run smoothly. Additionally, they help protect our devices from viruses and ensure our data is secure. Overall, operating systems make our devices more organized, user-friendly, and reliable, making it easier for us to do what we want with our devices. CONS OF OPERATING SYSTEMS
Operating systems can sometimes be
complex to understand, require regular updates, and may encounter bugs or glitches. They may also have compatibility issues with certain software or applications. Despite these drawbacks, operating systems are essential for smooth and secure device functioning. EXCITING ADVANCES IN OPERATING SYSTEMS New and cool developments of OS that make our devices faster, more efficient, and easier to use. These advancements introduce features like better interaction methods and improved security, enhancing our overall device experience. In simple terms, operating systems are constantly evolving to make our devices smarter and more enjoyable THANK YOU
