 It is the branch of moral science which treats of the duties


which an attorney owes to the court, to his client, to his colleagues
in the profession and to the public as embodied in the constitution,
rules of court, code of professional responsibility, canons of
professional ethics, moral law and special laws. (Malcolm, Legal
and Judicial Ethics as cited in Agpalo 2009, p. 2).

Lawyers must avoid situations where


their personal interest conflict with

Lawyers should be transparent


about their fees and charges, ensuring
that they are reasonable and accurately
reflect the services provided.

IMPORTANCE OF LEGAL ETHICS

It is a required bar subject in order to emphasize its importance in ensuring


the continued existence of the law profession .

The highest moral and ethical standards should be maintained so that the people will
continue to maintain their reposed trust in lawyers and the role they play
in the administration of justice.

Consequently, the continued existence of legal profession is insured.


If lawyers are bound by a set of rules, the primary purpose of which is
to ensure that lawyers are trustworthy people , then society will
maintain its trust and confidence in the justice system
and legal profession.

If the will not trust lawyers anymore, then the legal profession will die a
natural death. Nobody will go to lawyers anymore and perhaps will just
take the law into their own hands.
