c. Trees acts as artificial filter which
reduce runoff into the oceans .

animals live in the Great Barrier reefs?
b. What greatly affects the destruction of the
coral reefs?
c. What will happen if no action is taken
towards the destruction of coral reefs?
d. Based from the video, what are the 6
steps to protect and conserve coral reefs?
Remember
Coral ecosystems are a source of food for millions: protect
coastlines from storms and erosion; provide habitat,
spawning and nursery grounds for economically
important fish species; provide jobs and income to local
economies from fishing, recreation, and tourism; are
source of new medicines. There are other ways to protect
the reefs such as discouraging people from collecting
coral for ornamental purposes, illegal dynamite fishing ,
dumping garbage into the sea.
Do You Know that
 Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is the largest reef system in the world, and can be
seen from outer space. Encompassing a 133,000-square mile area, it’s
comprised of more than 2,900 individual reefs and 1,050 islands, which stretch
out over 1,400 miles long.
 Stretching over 550 miles from Cancun to Honduras, the Mesoamerican Barrier
Reef is the world’s second largest coral reef system, attracting some 150,000
people to Mexico each year.
 Located in the Philippines, Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park was declared a
UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 due to its pristine coral reef system.
Encompassing 97,030 hectares, the park’s two coral atolls are home to 600
species of fish, 360 species of coral, 11 species of sharks, 13 species of dolphins
and whales, birds, plus hawksbill and green sea turtles.
 Here in San Juan, Batangas, there is a coral reforestation project constructed in
La Luz Beach Resort last 2017 since San Juan, Batangas is blessed with a long
