PROJECT TITLE: AN APPLICATION OF QUANTITATIVE RISK ANALYSIS TO ACCESS HAZARD

AND RISK OF WORKERS AT CEMENCO CEMENT PRODUCTION PLANT ON THE JAPAN
FREEWAY IN MONROVIA.

Presented To: Mr. Sumo S. Momolu

Date: 12/19/2023
BACKGROUND OF PROJECT
The role of CEMENCO in Liberia’s infrastructural development is vital, but also
linked to issues relating to health hazards and its associated risks with its
manufacturing and transport processes. This research seeks to identify the health
hazards and associated risks, current control measures and administrative risk
management plan in order to upgrade and enforce those measures among workers
at CEMENCO Liberia. Questionnaires will be developed as a means of collecting
imperial data aim at identifying the different hazards that set the base line for risks
at CEMENCO Liberia.
Additionally, interviews will be conducted with different management staff of the
industry to secure an accurate account of information about the current control
measures and administrative risk management plan. Observations will also be made
in order to obtain useful information that will proffer result which will address the
problem identified in the research. This research also focuses on the effects of the
noise exposure levels, dust, toxic gases ( CO,CO2, NO, SO2), heat pollution,
ergonomics of workers and proposed suggestions to improved on the current
control measures and administrative risk management plan so as to mitigate or
control the risks associated with the cement production processes at CEMENCO.
Project Expected Outcomes (Deliverables)
The major goal of this research project is to identify the current control measures
and administrative risk management plan at CEMENCO Liberia and do a quantitative
risk analysis in line with international standards in order to established improved
methods or strategies that will addressed the health hazards and associated risks
connected with workers in the cement plant at CEMENCO Liberia, to gather
information on the health effects of cement dust and to decrease health risks for
cement mill operators by informing them about the hazards of cement dust.
The effects of the noise exposure levels at CEMENCO and possible remedies to
address them will be established to remove or reduce the risk it poses to the health
conditions of its workers and those who live near its activities, recommendations will
be made to improved the surrounding of its activities. Furthermore, the design of
equipment and process flow will be examined and suggested recommendations will
be made for improvement so as to reduce workers fatigue and injury.
