    The GMRP was launched in 1983, aiming to transport 6.5
    million cubic meters of water per day from the desert
    wellfields to the coastal zone.
    The GMRP includes 6 water supply systems as listed below
    (Figure 1):
    Sarir- Sirt, Tazerbo- Benghazi System (SSBT), (phase 1)
    Hasouna- Jefara system, (phase 2).
    Sirt/Sedada System, (phase 3).
    Kufra/ Tazerbo System, (phase 4).
    Jiagboub/ Tobruk system, (phase 5).
    The Gedammes/ Zwara system, (phase 6).

    The Tazerbo Wellfield is situated in south eastern Libya,

    It is located in a flat desert area at the southern limit of the


    .Sarir plain and covers an area of 1000 square kilometers

    The Tazerbo Wellfield lies along the south - west north –


    east alignment of the southern flank of the Hercynian
    uplifts which forms the boundary Separating the Kufra
    .and Sirt basins

    Several indices were used to indicate the potential of


    Tazerbo Wellfield water to cause corrosion or to
    precipitate incrustating deposits on wells pumps and
    .pipelines

    The calculated indices are presented in Table 4 as


    .statistical analysis
    Chemical Indicator of Corrosion and Water
    Aggressivity.

    The determination of saturation indices of Tazerbo


    wellfield water with respect to calcium carbonate has been
    done using indices such as Langelier Index (LI), Ryznar
    Index (RI) and Merrill and Sanks, 1977 CCPP (Calcium
    carbonate precipitation potential), Table 4.

    The corrosion property of Tazerbo Wellfield water has


    been calculated using corrosion indices such as the
    Chloride Corrosion Index (CCI), Corrosivity Index (Cor. I)
    and Driving Force Index (DFI), Table 4.

    CONCLUSION
    •Water type for the Tazerbo Wellfield is sodium
    bicarbonate
    •These difference concentration of ions in the
    •Tazerbo can be explained by a mixing effect of the
    groundwater as it moves within the
    aquifer.
    •Tazerbo Wellfield water is a soft water.
    •Tazerbo Wellfield water is characterized by
    • reducing conditions with almost all wells
    • having a negative oxidation reduction
    • potential (ORP).
    •Variation in the sulphate concentration is likely due to
    reducing conditions.
    •The determination of several indices used to indicate
    the potential of Tazerbo Wellfield water have showed
    that it is aggressive to the cementation materials of the
    GMRP pipeline.

    •Tazerbo Wellfield water meet the WHO


    Guidelines for drinking water standards,
    with the exception of iron, manganese
    and potassium.

    • The iron concentration is seven times


    higher than the admissible levels of
    the WHO.
    • The manganese concentration is double the
    admissible level for WHO guideline.

    • The average concentration of potassium is


    28.95 mg/l which is considered to be
    high, although of no great consequence for
    water quality.

    • In conclusion, The water has been treated


    for remove iron, CO2 and manganese before
    delivery to the consumer.

    • Considering agricultural use for the Tazerbo


    Wellfields water, it is suitability for irrigation
    according to the international standers.
