CLIMATE ACTION PROJECT

Global Outlook
Climate Action Project
Climate change describes a
What is change in the average conditions
Climate such as temperature and rainfall
in a region over a long period of
Change? time.
Causes of Climate
Change
• Deforestation - Deforestation can cause climate
change, desertification, soil erosion, fewer crops,
flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere and a host of problems for indigenous
people.
• Excessive Emission Of Greenhouse Gasses - Air
pollutants can cause several adverse environmental
effects, such as photochemical smog, acid rain, death
of forests, or reduced atmospheric visibility.
• Volcanic Eruptions - Volcanoes can change the weather.
They can cause rain, thunder and lightning. Lava can
kill plants and animals too. A volcano in 1980 killed an
estimated 24,000 animals including 11,000 hares,
6,000 deer, 300 bobcats, 200 black bears and 15
mountain lions.
• Melting Of Glaciers - Melting glaciers add to rising sea
levels, which in turn increases coastal erosion and
elevates storm surge as warming air and ocean
temperatures create more frequent and intense coastal
storms like hurricanes and typhoons.
Effects Of Climate
Change
• Rise In Sea Level - Global sea level has risen by
about 8 inches since reliable record keeping began
in 1880. It is projected to rise another 1 to 8 feet by
2100. This is the result of added water from melting
land ice and the expansion of seawater as it warms.
• Increase In Droughts And Heat Waves - Summer
temperatures are projected to continue rising, and
a reduction of soil moisture. Droughts and heat
waves everywhere are projected to become more
intense, and cold waves less intense everywhere.
• Changes in Precipitation Patterns - Average
precipitation has increased since 1900, but some
areas have had increases greater than the national
average, and some areas have had decreases. More
winter and spring precipitation is projected and less
for the Southwest, over this century.
• Hurricanes Becoming More strong and Intense
- The intensity, frequency and duration of North
Atlantic hurricanes, as well as the frequency of the
strongest hurricanes, have all increased since the
early 1980s.
Solutions To Prevent
Climate Change
• Reduce Deforestation –  Reducing deforestation helps to
prevent climate change as they absorb carbon – dioxide
and give out oxygen which is vital for our living.
• Reduce The Use Of Fossil Fuels -  Fossil fuels produce large
quantities of carbon dioxide when burned. Carbon
emissions trap heat in the atmosphere and lead to climate
change. The burning of fossil fuels is used for particularly
for the power and transportation sectors, accounts for
about three-quarters of our carbon emissions. So, it is
important to reduce using fossil fuels.
• Follow The 3 Rs - To stop climate change you can use
the 3R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. To start off every
product has every step from manufacturing to disposal
which leads to greenhouse gas problems. Reducing,
Reusing and recycling means you buy less and throw away
less.
• Spread Awareness -  It helps people understand and
address the impact of global warming, increases
“climate literacy” among young people,
encourages changes in their attitudes and behavior, and
helps them adapt to climate change related trends.
