ECONOMICS STRAND AND ITS IMPACT


ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Background of the study
Home economics track offers various specializations that can
lead to livelihood projects at home. This strand aims to give you
job ready skills that can help you in findings the right
employment.
Home Economics strand counts as an interdisciplinary degree
that focuses on the economics of running a household. It may lead
to learn the student at different skills of chosen career path that
can give them skills as they use as they grow. Home Economics
give the students an experience like in a real situation in real life.
Because of its real-world applications, students may find these
techniques conductive to their everyday lives
Background of the study
According to Wikipedia (2018), Home economics, domestic
science or home science is a field of study that deals with home
and economics. It deals with the relationship between
individuals, families, communities, and the environment in
which they live. Family and consumer science was previously
known in the United States as Home Economics, often
abbreviated "Home Economics" or "HE". In 1994, various
organizations, including the American Association of Family
and Consumer Sciences, adopted the new term "family and
consumer science" to reflect the fact that the field covers
aspects outside of home life and wellness. The field is also
known by other names, including human sciences, home
science, and domestic economy.
Background of the study
In History, Catharine Beecher, American educator Ellen
Richards, one of the first to champion the economics of
running a home was Catherine Beecher, sister to Harriet
Beecher Stowe. Catherine and Harriet both were leaders in
mid-19th century North America in talking about domestic
science. Home Economics has a strong historic relationship to
the field of human ecology, and since the 1960s a number of
university-level Home Economics programs have been
renamed "human ecology" programs, including Cornell
University's program. (Wikipedia 2018)
Objective of the study
1. Gather Demographic Profile of the Respondents in terms of:
•Gender
•Age
•Year Level
•Average in first grading of the first semester
2. Investigate the importance of Home Economic strand
3. Identify the significance of Home Economics as strand in
Senior High School
4. Reveal the significance between the skills in Home
Economics and Academic Performance of Students in Senior
High School

Locale of the study
The study will be conducted and held on the school of
Camflora National High School (Annex) located at Brgy. Talisay,
San Andres Municipality, Province of Quezon and on the
Pagsangahan National High School located at Brgy. Pagsangahan,
San Francisco, Quezon. The researchers gathered there a data and
information about the relevance of the study and conduct a survey
to answer the survey questionnaire.

Technical Vocational Livelihood Track, Home Economics


Strand in Senior High School of Camflora National High School
(Annex) and Pagsangahan National High School can help us to
conduct its problem.
Research Design
The researchers conducted a survey and gathered
information by use of descriptive way. The researcher
wants to know of their opinion about the importance
of Home Economics and its significance between the
Home Economics and its impact on the academic
performance of Senior High Students.

In addition, the researchers use the average of the


students in academic subject as an instrument of this
study from first grading of their first semester.
Population and Sampling
The researchers find respondents from the
population of Camflora National High School
(Annex) and on the population of Pagsangahan
National High School random sampling was
employed. Our study needs of 50 respondents in
Senior High School Department which selected
students of Grade 11 and Grade12. It will be held on
the High School of Camflora National High School
(Annex) and Pagsangahan National High School of
Quezon province.
Instrumentation
The researchers use the checklist or survey questionnaire for
gathering data as instrument of finding information about
respondent’s opinion on this research study. This is composed of
the following statements: demographic profile of the
respondents, the importance of Home Economics strands,
significance of Home Economics as strand in Senior High
School, and lastly, the significance between the skills in Home
Economics and academic performance of students in Senior
High School.

The survey questionnaire was gave to the selected Senior High


School, this instrumentation used to help this study to be realistic
Statistical Treatment
To interpret the data that gathered from the respondent, the
researchers use the formulated percentage.

Findings
The findings of the study are the following;
Home Economics strand is helpful and more importance in the
curriculum nowadays because of its benefits and good impact on
the learning skills of our students. It may lead us to learn new
skills and use it as we grow and be part of our successful as a
person with the dream for better future of our country.
Home Economics has a significance as strand in Senior High
School like it can help us to start-up a business for our success,
and enhance our self-confidence, it will teach us and boost our
knowledge in theories because of its experience that the students
must do to learn new skills, and it can change our mindset to
dream and to think for better and best tomorrow of our Nation
like how we success.
Findings
Home Economics has a significance in Academic
Performance of Senior High School Students because
students can learn more in academic by way of
learning new skills on the experience that they have
encountered and gained proper knowledge in Home
Economics strand. According to the survey the
respondents are Strongly Agree that Experience is a
good teacher of skills than theories because it is
conducted in a real situation which students can gained
learning and better understanding.
Conclusions
The conclusions of the study are as follow;

1. Home Economics is the foundation of the success


of every Pilipino children and or students. It can
help our Country to raise us in poverty, this is the
key of our victories.

2. The Home Economics strand has a great benefit to


improve our people skills and build new learning
in accordance of good ethics as Pilipino
countrymen.
Conclusions
3. This is the strand that will take us to grab the way of
a great solutions on a big problem of the
government about the status of every Pilipino that
they are continuing to live in poverty, this strand is
the key to success in that problem.

4. Home Economics strand will raise the level of our


education and bring us in a high level of learning,
be a great country in terms of ability, skills,
learning, and knowledge that provided in this
strand.
Recommendations
Based on the results and conclusions the following are the
recommendations;
To the Teachers continuing to teach our students a great
ability, learning, skills, and teach them a proper knowledge that
they will use in their everyday lives and as they grow as a
Pilipino.
To the Students don’t stop gaining knowledge and new skills,
learn to grab the great opportunity that can raise us in our
dream and be one of the successful citizens of the Philippines.
To the Future Researchers continue to discover information
about the benefits of Home Economics strand and gathered data
that may lead our people to know how this strand really help
our students and for us.
