He was the youngest national artist
at age 46.
He helped shape local sculpture in

Guerrero was playwright writer, a director,
teacher and artist.
He wrote more than 100 plays with almost
half published.

Guerrero was the Director of the Dramatic
Club at the University of the Philippines for
16 years.

Catalino “Lino” Ortiz Brocka was
born on April 3, 1939 at Pilar, Sorsogon.
He fought for “ freedom of expression”
in the Philippine Constitution.
He was able to create 66 films before his
death.
He directed not only commercial films
but theater plays through the Philippine
Educational Theater Association (PETA)
and the Concerned Artist of the
Philippines (CAP).
His award winning pieces were
all recognized by the FAMAS,
TOYM, CCP and Cannes Film
Festival.
