• He turned a shoe business into SM


Investments, one of Philippines' largest
conglomerates, died at age 94 on January 19,
2019.
• In the past, after saving enough money, he went
out on his own and started his first business
with a footwear shop.
• He was in the Forbes Philippines Rich List for
eleven years in a row, through 2018, with an
estimated net worth of $19 billion when he
died.
TONY TAN
CAKTIONG

• He is the founder and chairman of Jollibee


Food, one of the world's fastest-growing Asian
restaurant chains.
• Jollibee operates more than 3,300 eateries in
the Philippines and more than 2,500 stores
overseas.
• It sells Filipino, Chinese, American and
European dishes adapted to a quick-serve and
affordable format.
JOHN GOKONGWEI JR.

• Before he died in November 2019 at the age of


93. He was the third-richest person in the
Philippines.
• He is the founder of JG Summit which has
interests in airlines, telecom, banking, food,
power, and property.
• The cornstarch plant he started in 1957 has
grown into Universal Robina Corporation, one
of the country's largest food and beverage
companies.
SOCORRO RAMOS
• She is the founder of National Book Store, the largest
bookstore chain in the Philippines. 

•  They rented a small-corner space of


a Haberdashery situated at the foot of Escolta Bridge
in Santa Cruz, Manila. With a starting capital
of ₱211 back then. They set up their first retail
bookstore selling GI novels, text books and supplies.

• Today, National Book Store captures the majority of the


Philippine book market having a share amounting to 80
percent, and operates around 127 branches across the
Philippines. 
CECILIO KWOK PEDRO
• He became one of the first Filipinos who became successful
in the exporting industry. His Chinese surname, Kwok
means "to give" is truly an exact description ofthis man.

• He is the founder of Happee toothpaste in the Philippines,


making his company, Lamoiyan Corp., the country’s first
homegrown toothpaste name.

• He graduated from Ateneo de Manila University and


earned a degree in Business Management. He also received
the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Technological
Management from Technological University of the
Philippines.
MARIANO QUE
• Mariano Que started his business by buying a bottle of
sulfathiazole from a peddler for P100.

• He opened his first store after World War II in 1945. Today,


Mercury Drug has over 1,000 branches nationwide, placing
it among the country's largest drug store chains. 

• He was able to purchase other medicines and eventually a


pushcart, which he loaded with his growing supply of
pharmaceutical goods.
ALFREDO M. YAO

• He is founder of Macay Holdings, a maker and distributor


of carbonated soft drinks.

• He started Zest-O Corp. with just $50 that sells fruit juices,
root beer and noodles worldwide.

• Yao opened a printing press business for packaging when


we was 17; he named it Solemar, after his mother, Soledad.
CORAZON D. ONG
• She started a small home business from her kitchen in Valenzuela
making her own meat products. With a growing family, she decided
that her love for cooking could help augment the family income.

• The company was registered as CDO Food Products in the same


year, carrying Ma’am Cora’s initials. Later on in 1981, they
registered as a corporation under the name Foodsphere Inc. where
CDO became the flagship brand. 

• They continue to introduce new products that have become


household staples, and established the CDO brand as a carrier of
quality and affordability present at every Filipino family table. 
Engr. GREGORIO SANCHEZ,
JR.
• Lacto Pafi is a homegrown product introduced by former vice governor
Engineer Gregorio Sanchez Jr. in year 2000.

• Lacto Pafi has become a household name not only in Cebu but also all
over the Visayas and Mindanao. Lacto, which is loaded with probiotics, is
known prevent several infectious diseases.

• It is the leading provider of probiotic-loaded health drinks for 18 years.


Lacto Pafi has also expanded its reach to other sectors through its
complete line of agricultural, household and personal care products.
EDGAR SIA

• Edgar Sia II is the chairman of DoubleDragon Properties, the real


estate developer he and his partner Tony Tan Caktiong took public
in 2014.

• Sia dropped out of college to start Filipino fast-food label Mang


Inasal.

• Sia become the youngest billionaire in the Philippines at the age of


34 after selling his 70% stake in Mang Inasal to Jollibee.
