Profesional Engineering Bodies in Zimbabwe
• Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ)

• Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers (ZIE)


Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ)
• established following the Engineering Council Act [Chapter27:22] in
March 2009
• it is a regulatory authority for registration of engineers and
engineering technicians
Membership Categories
Purpose of the institution
to maintain the register of Engineers in Zimbabwe
to issue practicing certificates to registered persons and also suspend certificates
to ensure that constituent bodies have adequate procedures to enforce ethical
practice and discipline among engineers under the engineering council act
to promote the view of the engineering profession on national, regional and
international issues
to evaluate or monitor and uphold the standards of qualifying criteria or
examinations, courses or training set offered by constituent bodies
to encourage manpower development to meet the requirements of the
engineering profession in Zimbabwe
to provide accreditation of college based courses
Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers (ZIE)

founded in 1944 and gained legal status in 1952

It is a policy making board consisting of members representing all


grades of its own ranks.

It covers all engineering aspects in Zimbabwe

Purpose of the institution
To ensure correct standards of professional conducts and
ethics
Promotes advancement of Engineering and facilitates the
transfer and dissemination of engineering knowledge
Set and maintain appropriate standards of engineering
and technician competence
Raise the character and status of the profession and also
promote public awareness and confidence in it.
Importance of membership in these bodies
• They equip Engineers with ethical codes of conducts with the profession
• Demonstrates one's professional commitment and enhances career prospects
• Access to magazines published by the professional bodies
• Provides a way to meet and network with the chemical engineering colleagues
to keep yourself informed about what is happening in your industry
• Local chapters provides the opportunity to get in touch with the Chemical
Engineers in one’s locale
• Provides volunteering opportunities to give back to the society
• Provides access to symposiums and conferences organised by the bodies
